Blogging 101: 7 Essential Blogging Tips

A blog has become a necessity for every Internet Marketer out there. If you’re running a blog to build your business and have a steady flow of leads and cash, there is still a lot to learn…a lot of strategies that are needed to be done consistently on a daily basis in order to have an effective blog with a good amount of traffic.
Blogging 101: 7 Essential Tips To Have A Successful Blog
1. Being consistent in posting new content
When people say “Content is King!”, they are not kidding you. Why have a blog and not post any content? That is just crazy! Content is the key to traffic, SEO, relationship-building and a constant flow of visitors and readers. Without it, a blog is not even a blog. You need to be able to consistently make new posts to attract your readers to come back for more. When someone likes your post or shares it on social media, they mean it. They don’t like it for the sake of liking it. So, keep that flowing. Our rule-of-thumb is that we post at least 3 times a week. That is our minimum. You can post a lot more, but not too much. Once a day is perfect.
Doing this will build you a following of readers. There are tons of info out there, so don’t share all at one time. Give your readers a feeling that there’s more to come and make them anticipate what’s in store for them in the next post.
2. Be a story teller
Remember when we were in the 1st grade and our teachers and parents would read and tell us stories? Didn’t we love those times? Well even if we’re all grown up, we still LOVE listening to stories. Stories attract people, especially in the world of business. We always hear a 23-year-old college drop-out, Mr. or Ms. X, making it big in the online marketing world. People are attracted to that. So put it to good use and start channeling your inner child and be creative on how you tell your own story. Make it unique and stand out. In short, facts tell, stories sell…and they sell really well! Why? Because people join people and your story is the start. Doing this will keep visitors wanting to hear more from you. So become the best story teller you can be!
3. Become organized in your posts by using bullet points and numbered lists
A great tip for posting new content is to use bullet points and numbered lists…just like what I did on this post. People seem to like reading posts that are done this way simply because they can scroll through the content and see a quick overview on what the post is really about. It’s really simple to navigate and instead of reading large amounts of texts, the post is broken down into sub-posts and people can scan through the list.
4. Get straight to the point!
Have you ever visited a page, for example, that has a title “Benefits Of Being Healthy” and it takes the author around 300-500 words to actually explain and give out the benefits? Start your post out with at least 1-2 paragraphs. If not, your bounce rate will definitely sky-rocket!
People visit your blog for a solution or an aid to their problem or situation. Give it to them as soon as possible. If not, the worst thing will happen to you. What is that? The visitor will leave your page and may never come back. Now we don’t want that, do we?
Our goal is to keep our visitors on our site for as long as possible. That’s why Mark Zuckerberg is richer than Sergey Brin and Larry Page (the Google boys) now (in case you didn’t know yet)… and he got to $17.5BILLION much faster than they did.
5. Make sure your post does not look scary
You must be wondering why I used the word “scary”. Well, I used it simply because some people don’t structure their blog posts well. For example: a post with 6 paragraphs and 500 words have no spacing and are all so close together. Now, that’s “Charlie Sheen” scary! That’s definitely not “winning”! The first thing your visitor will feel once they see this: overwhelmed!
Without even starting to read your post, they will already feel tired and will lose interest. They will leave instantly. Structure your paragraphs well, make sure images aren’t too close and crowding up with each other, and press the “enter” button (go to the next line or paragraph) when needed.
6. Comment on other blogs
This is a great way to create backlinks. Now, don’t just give one-line comments. Make a comment coming from your heart. That way, people will have to click on your name, which would bring them to your site, and see what you have in store for them. Make it a habit to comment on at least 10 blogs daily. If you have more free time, why not make that 20 blogs?
7. Develop a social media presence
This step is very powerful once applied the right way. Share your content on social media sites. It’s always important to develop a strong social media presence. Don’t spam, though. People will hate you for doing that! Another great way to do this is by having a Facebook Comment Stream on your blog, which I explained how to add one here.
Writing a blog post that’s pretty long
Create sub-posts and a header just like the one above. Then add 1-2 paragraphs under it and keep your paragraphs to 3-6 sentences or less. Breaking your posts to sub-posts is a great way to make readers feel like they don’t have much to read. Also, adding images is always great! People love them and Google ranks images as well. Use images and make sure it’s on-topic.
If you don’t have your own blog yet and looking to have one up, or even if you have one but don’t know how to effectively market it, then this is the perfect training for you.

Great set of tips Pete.
#5 is one that really counts. I almost always click away from vast tracts of text these days. It’s simply too intimidating.
I could add some tweaks and extra points in here, but you’ve covered the basics in a really solid way. Specificity, clarity, humanity and accessibility all have a role to play.
I’d like to start a movement though – Wherever I see the phrase “Content is King”, I want to add the word ‘Quality’. COntent is not King – Quality Content is King…
Keep up the great work guys, thanks for this post

All great and straight forward points that any aspiring bloggers must heed. I am working on #5 and #7 right now. I know I can write too chunky paragraphs sometimes. This is the result of my school day training. Also so far, I only use twitter to promote content either mine or others. Will be getting to FB and other soon. What’s your take on the best way to use twitter? I mean, what are the key things to do on twitter on a daily presence that will grow your traffic?
