Motivation? It Starts With You!

Why do you think Uncle Sam is pointing at you?
Don’t worry. He isn’t pissed. He isn’t gonna scream, bite or knock you out. He’s just sick and tired of all the excuses we make daily instead of going out and making things happen. In short, cut the crap, open your eyes ,and realize that every excuse made is plainly a waste of time. We have one life on Earth. We wouldn’t want to waste time now, do we?
In any business, especially in the network marketing industry, leaders are present. No matter where you go and where you look, there will always be leaders. Some are born to be leaders, some are soon to be leaders, and some are still searching their leader within.
One very important ability a leader must possess is the ability to motivate and pump up his/her team members/employees. A leader is who people look up to when times are hard, challenging, and gloomy. As a leader, it’s our responsibility to help our followers convert the negative into positive energy.
What if the leader is the one that’s all screwed up?

Then that would be a problem, don’t you think? Imagine how his/her followers would be panicking like the world is about explode or something else crazy enough to make people panic. Who wouldn’t panic if your leader’s lifestyle and appearance is like this guy in the picture? Now if this is how things are for you, then as a leader, it’s our responsibility to change for the good of the people who look up to us. A leader should be someone who brings out the best in people around him/her.
So what’s my point?
“If you’re looking to motivate other people, you should first motivate yourself. “
Everything starts within us. Everything we want and need we can get as long as we’re willing to train, develop, and grow our experience, personality, thoughts, and many more. We’re powerful beings who dominate this planet. Some people think that they are screwed. Ok if you were born a chicken, don’t you think you’re screwed knowing that you can be someone’s lunch or dinner soon? We’re lucky to live as #1 in this world. We’re lucky not to be part of the food chain.
One thing I learned through my journey in life is that we should look at the bright side. Instead of always harboring negative thoughts, why not look at it with a positive perspective? Jim Rohn once said, “Instead of looking at the bottle half empty, look at it and think that it’s not half empty at all… it’s half full!”
Do that and I guarantee things will start to look brighter on your end. Happiness and good feelings? They’re all within us. There is no monetary value to unlock those. It’s all within us. As long as we’re inclined to feel that way, then it will happen. If we’re not, thinking that we have to travel to the North Pole to be happy, then we’re really screwed. Go try it out and find out how you feel. Going anywhere else won’t really solve our issues. Only we can solve our own issues…from within.
A great example of this is from the recently released film “Arthur” starring Russell Brand. Arthur was born a billionaire…having everything in life. Heck, he even had his own Batsuit and Batmobile (I think that’s freakin awesome) but, he lived a wasted life: drunk, high and lonely every single day. He was too attached to his money until he met a young beautiful lady who changed his life. He realized that happiness from money is nothing compared to happiness brought from within. Just like leaders, we can get side tracked every now and then, but as adult professionals, we should know how to deal with it.
So whenever you’re feeling down, don’t bother trying to motivate others. You will only send out the wrong messages and sometimes give bad impression. We wouldn’t want that now, would we?
It’s our jobs as leaders is to give people a shove every now and then. Don’t worry. It won’t be painful. It will be life-changing. We need to set an example to our followers so that one day, they too can be in our position and teach what they know to their students and will go on and on (a continuous cycle that has no ending). Now wouldn’t you want to start that cycle? Think about it. I know I do. The best feeling in the world is knowing I helped change someone’s life. I love doing that so much that I feel I’m selfish already. Helping others? Selfish?! Why?! Helping others is a kind, generous act; but, the result is the best feeling in the world. I merely help to feel good and see someone’s life renewed. Want to feel that too? Then wake up and start being the full-time leader everyone else is looking for.
Don’t ever forget: “If you want to motivate others, you must first motivate yourself“.
Why do I keep saying that? Well if you can’t motivate yourself, then how in the world do you think can you motivate someone else? Like I said before, “Everything starts with yourself“. So let’s work harder on ourselves than we do with our job (another Jim Rohn quote) and the sky’s the limit to what we can achieve.

For certain, it would be very difficult for an individual to motivate himself if he has a bad habit of thinking of negative things. It’s a good thing that you’ve mentioned being optimistic towards everything.

Hey Candice,
Yes, as leaders, we need to set an example wherein others may follow. So it’s important to leave the best example out there for our people to benefit from in the future.

The best part is obviously motivating oneself to make a life out of something. Some people are just too content with their lives and will give you saintly advice to be content with what they have or whatever they are doing.Leaders would just do the opposite, at-least motivate you in some way or the other

Great message today PJ, love it!
I guess for some people the motivating factor can set them back. The way I look at this is if you are excited about whatever you are involved in, that should be enough to get you on the right road.
If that’s not enough for you, purchase some books or listen to some audios of some personal development leaders such as Jim Rohn so you can start educating yourself about how to become the leader you know you are meant to be.
You’ll never get to where you want to be if you continue to sit on your hands and think about what if. It all starts with taking action and even if it’s baby steps, just take one step at a time. You’ll be where you need to be in no time at all.
Thanks for this message and enjoy your weekend.

Hey Adrienne,
Thank you very much! Glad you like our post.
Yes I agree with you on that. Since you like what you’re doing, then you’re motivated and excited to get started and keep doing it. It’s a huge difference compared to being forced to do something you don’t like.
I love Jim Rohn. I grew up listening to his tapes, watching seminars on video and reading his books. Education is definitely important in what we do.
You’re welcome Adrienne!

Have a great weekend as well!

Great post PJ. I think we all need a kick up the butt sometimes. You’re right, before you start trying to motivate others, you first have to motivate yourself.
I always head over to Youtube to find an interesting and motivational video to get myself kickstarted. Watch one of those for a few minutes and you’re raring to go

Hey Des,
Thank you very much! Glad you like it.
Yes, I always do that. It has proven to be very effective as well. Another thing I like to do is to listen to some audio tapes of leaders I look to and respect. Music also pumps me up (the type with strong positive lyrics).
Anyways thanks for commenting on our blog!
Have a great weekend!

Hi Pete,
Great message for those seeking to lead and motivate. Only when we have cleaned our inner self and motivate can we motivate and lead others. I am always fascinate by the concept of self leadership. It is a great journey. When we are on it, we need never worry about leading others. The others will see it and feel your energy. It is a natural leadership process.

You’re absolutely right, Jimmy. Thanks.
Nice job, Pete.
It’s really no secret to being a leader. Just head off onto a mission that you have true passion for. Others with the same passion cannot help but follow you. That’s when you achieve leadership status.
