a new HD and affordable model

Google has just quietly launched a new Chromecast with Google TV. It is distinguished by being limited to Full HD (1080p) and by a price much more accessible than that of the high-end model.

Google will not have waited for its October 6 event to formalize a new product. The Mountain View firm has just announced the arrival of a new Chromecast with Google TV (HD). This version had been expected for a few months and rumors were rife regarding its formalization. It presents itself as a more affordable alternative to the Chromecast launched in September 2020.

Two years ago, Google created the event by proposing a major overhaul. The Chromecast with Google TV differed from previous models by offering a real interface, a remote control and a new design. A small revolution for a high-end model launched at 69.99 euros. Until this day, there was no affordable alternative and we had to settle for the old generation Chromecast (2019).

Chromecast with Google TV, yes but which one?

This new Chromecast with Google TV is more accessible, with a price of 39.99 euros. It adopts the same design as its big brother and also offers a remote control and an interface. The main difference is that this new model limit to 1080p at 60 frames per second. An entry-level model therefore, unlike the existing model which offers streaming up to 4K HDR at 60 fps.

For the rest, this Chromecast with Google TV (HD) displays the same dimensions (162.5 x 61 x 12.5 mm) and the same weight (55 g) as the 4K version. On the other hand, it is only available in a “Snow” color while the 4K model adds “Sky” and “Aurore” colors.

In nine years, the Chromecast has changed a lot

Offered below 40 euros, it allows the firm to position itself on the entry level. Historically, it is this affordable price that has allowed the Chromecast to achieve great success since its launch in 2013. Nine years later, the little dongle is still looking to facilitate access to content and its mission has changed somewhat. When it was launched, the goal was to transform any TV into a smart TV by offering the possibility of streaming content from your phone to a TV.

This is still the case today, but most televisions have connected functions. With its Chromecasts, Google now claims the possibility of bringing people together in the same place “all your streaming apps and content”. It is also based on personalized recommendationsthe presence of theGoogle Assistant or the possibility of control Nest products.
