Covid: reinfected people would be more at risk of developing health problems

As the Covid continues to circulate, a recent study warns that reinfections increase the risk of developing health problems and long Covids.

There are now many people who have had the Covid twice, three times, or even more. Blame it on more contagious variants, which continue to circulate strongly. And if reinfection is common, it is not necessarily benign. In any case, this is the warning given by epidemiologist Ziyad Al-Aly, who conducted a study, published on November 10 in the journal Nature Medicine, reports Le Monde.

According to the results of this study, reinfection doubled the risk of death and tripled the risk of being hospitalized and developing heart problems.

“All kinds of health problems”

The American researchers based their study on a sample of 443,000 people who had Covid between March 2020 and April 2022. Of this sample, 41,000 people had had Covid at least twice.

With AFP, quoted by our colleagues from 20 minutes, the main author of the study summarizes: “people who were reinfected presented an increased risk of all kinds of undesirable health problems”. Moreover, the list of the risks evoked is long: cerebral affections, kidney diseases, diabetes…

Le Bien Public specifies that the increased risk remains visible six months after reinfection.
