EKINOPS – Ekinops provides an immersive virtualization environment for research and teaching at the École de technologie supérieure, part of the Université du Québec network – 09/20/2022 – 6:00 p.m.

Paris, September 20, 2022 – Ekinops (Euronext Paris – FR0011466069 – EKI), a leading provider of optical transport and network access solutions dedicated to telecommunications operators and enterprises, in partnership with Lanner Electronics, has deployed an immersive virtualization environment for personnel and students from the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), part of the Université du Québec network.

Ekinops delivered a turnkey and tailor-made set to support teaching and research consisting of its OneOS6-LIM network infrastructure software manager and its vRouter to create a virtualized computing environment that runs several virtualized network functions (VNF) , including SD-WAN services from Ekinops.

The new NFV solution will run on a white-box solution, based on Lanner Electronics’ Intel x86 processor, using the open architecture of Ekinops’ OneOS6-LIM middleware. OneManage, tool for deploying new services, Design Studio, solution for creating virtualized services and Director from Ekinops support management functions and provide a simple, flexible and user-friendly interface for educational purposes.

“Virtualization is now an integral part of the transformation of networks in telecoms and enterprises, and makes it possible to take advantage of the 5G infrastructure. Using white-boxed, ready-to-deploy equipment accelerates deployment and revenue generation », declares Sven Freudenfeld, Technical Director of Lanner Electronics, North America. “Software-defined networking (SDN) introduces new business models and new opportunities for several vertical markets. Providing this infrastructure to the research and teaching community forms a basis for further developments. »

The new virtualization solution will be studied by graduate telecommunications students to improve their understanding of major industry technology trends, including virtualization and network optimization that support the connectivity requirements of cloud computing and in its periphery (Edge). In addition, the solution will be used by ÉTS researchers to support R&D laboratory projects exploring future network access solutions.

One of the pillars of our teaching and research strategy at ÉTS is to offer students and researchers hands-on experience from our industry partnerships.”explains the Dr. Kim Khoa Nguyen, professor at ÉTS. ” We are very excited to work with the virtualization solution from Ekinops and Lanner, drawing on their combined experiences of deploying cutting-edge, field-proven technologies. The new environment exposes students and staff to the most advanced and innovative tools for teaching and applied research and will allow us to continue to equip tomorrow’s specialists with the skills to meet the changing needs of the sector. in connectivity. »

At Ekinops, we recognize that education and applied research have a direct link to innovations that support next-generation network connectivity », adds Brent Hayes, Vice President of Sales for Canada at Ekinops. ” We look forward to working closely with ÉTS. By providing students and researchers with an exciting and immersive environment where they can study and experience the latest network access solutions, we are investing in the future. Ultimately, this will benefit our carrier and enterprise customers, who will continue to receive industry-leading solutions from Ekinops for years to come. »

About EKINOPS

Ekinops is a leading provider of open and interoperable telecommunications solutions for service providers (telecom operators and enterprises) around the world. Ekinops solutions, highly programmable and scalable, allow the rapid and flexible deployment of new optical, broadband and high-speed transport services, as well as enterprise services, in particular through network virtualization.

The portfolio of solutions and services is made up of three perfectly complementary brands:

  • Ekinops 360, for the needs of metropolitan, regional and long-distance optical transport networks, based on two complementary technologies: WDM for a simple, compact and integrated architecture; OTN for complex multi-vendor environments
  • OneAccess, in order to offer a wide choice of deployment options, physical and virtualized, for layers 2 and 3 (link and network).
  • Compose to define networks by software through a variety of management tools and services, including the scalable SD-WAN Xpress solution and edge-to-cloud solutions from SixSq.

As service providers adopt SDN (Software Defined Networking) and NFV (Network Functions Virtualization) deployment models, Ekinops solutions allow them to migrate seamlessly to open and virtualized architectures.

Ekinops has a global organization and operates on four continents. Ekinops is listed on Euronext in Paris.
