First edition of Startup Challenge Moov Africa Burkina

Under the patronage of the Minister of Digital Transformation, Posts and Electronic Communications, Dr Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, the first Startup Challenge Moov Africa 2022 edition had its epilogue on November 04, 2022 with the start-up KOGLWEEFO as the winner, which is an innovative solution against machine theft in Burkina and everywhere else and which won 5,000,000 FCFA in the process.

Startup challenge Moov Africa is a boon for young people to embark on digital transformation through innovation. This is how Moov Africa Burkina, in its mission to contribute to the construction of a modern information society, has kindly launched this challenge in order to allow young people to stimulate excellence and offer new perspectives for young entrepreneurs and project leaders and also to support the challenge of digitalization in Burkina Faso.

Out of ten projects, all as innovative as each other, the jury, made up of multidisciplinary experts, ranked the KOGLWEEFO project, which provides a solution against machine theft, as the top priority. It is followed by the Educ AI project ranked 2nd and the ADA project which closes the top three. The Managing Director of Moov Burkina, Abdelillah ELAYDI, who congratulated the winners, said that the national champion will have to participate in Morocco in the Group Grand Final in the same way as the winners of the other subsidiaries of the Maroc Telecom Group. The three winners will benefit from a two (2) week exchange program abroad.

The young startupers finalists in this first edition of the Startup Challenge Moov Burkina 2022 have designed digital solutions in the various sectors of health (health tech), education (edtech), agriculture (agri tech), payment mobile (Fintech), smart cities, etc.

The competition took place in seven stages where project leaders had to present their technological innovations. Thus, after the in-depth work of the members of the jury committed to the task of selecting the best project out of the 10 finalists, the KOGLWEEFO project by electronics engineer Serge Auguste Zango stood out and won the prize. “Koglwefo is a connected motorcycle anti-theft device, which makes it almost impossible to steal any machine,” explained the winner when the results were announced.

The Minister of Digital Transformation, Dr Aminata Zerbo, who congratulated all the winners for their projects which each contribute in their own way to development, also indicated that digital is part of the response in the fight against terrorism that the country is experiencing.
