“If I could go back, I would choose to represent my native country, Senegal, instead of France”. These remarks which would have been made by Patrice Evra during a visit to Ghana have been denied by the entourage of the former French international (81 selections), according to information from RMC. He explained why and how he chose to represent France during his football career, it became political according to the former Manchester United left-back.
“I was born in Dakar, I play for France. When I was young, my parents gave me the chance to choose my national team. Because I grew up in France, I chose France. But I realized later that it’s really important to choose your own country. […] One of the painful lessons I learned with this pick is that when you play well and win, you are French; when the team loses, you are considered a Senegalese player” he explains when promoting his book.
