A gala match. Before discovering its future opponents at the next European Championship, the France Espoirs team was preparing to challenge Germany on its ground, defending champion which it won in 2021, against Portugal (1-0 ). For the occasion, Sylvain Ripoll aligned a 4-2-3-1 with Gouiri-Le Fée-Ngoumou, behind Rutter. Fofana, Kalulu and the Lyonnais Caqueret and Lukeba were also holders. Opposite, we found in particular the nugget of Dortmund Moukoko, associated with Thielmann (Cologne) at the forefront.
On paper, the match seemed largely up to the Bleuets, who quickly shared their technique for putting their foot on the ball. The first alert, after a good construction, came from Merlin, whose long shot was deflected by the German goalkeeper Atubolu (8th). More enterprising, the French showed themselves to be more and more dangerous, but did not manage to really create clear chances. Result: Germany took advantage and gradually regained possession of the ball.

The reigning European Champions could even have made the difference before half-time on a counter-attack, but Netz, however alone in front of the empty goal, saw Kalulu hinder him when shooting at close range (40th). After the break, the tricolor accelerated and finally managed to open the scoring. Well served by Le Fée, Gouiri made a nice solitary rush and could hit a finely rolled shot, directly into the opposite side netting (1-0, 52nd).
Again, Le Fée, very leggy, saw his shot graze the frame (59th). Few chances after that, while Les Bleuets could clearly have secured victory earlier. But finally, after a decisive reflex from Meslier at the end of the match (86th), Ripoll’s men brought back a good result against a prestigious opponent before a last friendly match against Belgium, at the Hainaut stadium in Valenciennes, Monday (21 hours). After that, they will prepare for the U23 European Championship, which will take place next summer, in Georgia and Romania.
