A new University of Technology should be in Tarbes from January 2024. This is the announcement that was made this Thursday, September 15 by Jean-Yves Fourquet (ENIT) and Jean-Yves Chambrin (IUT) in the presence of Antoine Nunes, Gilles Craspay and Pascale Peraldi.
This Technological University will be in line with the national landscape of higher education and research and compatible with European technological universities.
This project is the result of intense collaboration between ENIT and IUT for more than a year. From the outset, it has benefited from the support of local authorities (the Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées conurbation, the Department, the Occitanie Region) and companies, sensitive to the impact that this university will have on territorial development.
The genesis of the project stems from the observation that the two establishments share and structure the same campus; have a range of additional training; have a shared approach around the relationship with the industrial and economic sector in training and research. They have the common will to serve their territory and to promote scientific and technological culture.
The University of Technology will be able to rely, from its creation, on the two teaching components that are the ENIT and the IUT and will allow the development of a richer training offer and in accordance with the territorial dynamics ( bridges, masters, vocational training, lifelong training). It will also make it possible to significantly increase research and innovation activity by relying on the potential represented by the two current entities (about a hundred researchers between ENIT and IUT). The creation of this Technological University should make it possible to accommodate more students: 1,000 more within a few years.
Initially, the two structures worked on the development of a strategic orientation file describing the ambitions of the project and in particular the scientific signature of this new entity. This file was presented to the authorities of the establishments and structures concerned (ENIT Board of Directors, IUT Board, Paul Sabatier University Board of Directors) and co-constructed with representatives of local authorities. This important step has triggered several official meetings between ENIT, UPS, the rectorate and MESRI.
The schedule is now clear. After a certain number of significant advances over the last three months, the shared objective of a creation on January 1, 2024 has made it possible to draw up a retroplan which will punctuate the steps to be taken for the end of the year 2022 and for the year 2023.
At the same time, ENIT and IUT are working on the construction of an ambitious file which will be submitted as part of the future investment plan (PIA) to support the development of this new University over the next 10 years. .
Finally, the establishments and communities are working to develop the real estate of the university site in order to reinforce the coherence and visibility of the campus, to develop services and common activities, to welcome new audiences.
